Love is in the Air

Masquerade Engagement Party

Joey and I quite literally live in the greatest neighborhood ever.  We consider ourselves a small commune, sharing wine and power tools and flour and porches… but mostly wine.  When hurricane Isaac blew through New Orleans and downed a 300 year old live oak in the middle of our street, we grilled pizzas on the barbecue, played Monopoly by candle light and no surprise here… shared a lot of wine!  I couldn’t think of any better way to pass the long, hot days before the power was restored, than with our favorite neighbors.

So on Mardi Gras day, when our neighbor Jonathan got down on one knee in front of us all and proposed to his Queen of Mardi Gras, Whitney, I knew I wanted to help them celebrate (with wine, of course)!  I founded a beautiful hidden courtyard in the back of a little dive bar called the Rusty Nail.  Using a color palette of cream and metallic tones, I created arrangements with baby’s breath and ostrich feathers.  In a nod to their Mardi Gras proposal, I filled the bottom of each wine carafe, lantern and mason jar with gold and silver beads and asked the guests to don masks.  Whitney’s girlfriends and Jonathan’s parents completed the party planning with balloons, champagne and the most delicious spread of food you’ve ever tasted.

It was a magical masquerade fit for the King and Queen of the greatest neighborhood around.
