Unexpected Inspiration: Salon Style

MeLisa sketched and designed the entire space

New obsession: blow-dry bars

After my recent trip to California it seemed I was missing out on something.  Blow dry bars  were on practically every corner and my girlfriends couldn’t stop raving about them.  I was starting to feel a little left out until last month, the very first blow-dry bar opened here in the New Orleans area!  It’s called Studio One Style Bar and it’s run by the absolutely fabulous MeLisa Mannina.

The concept is great.  For $35 you get a shampoo, blow-out and style along with snacks and a glass of bubbly.  As much as I adored my new ‘do, I was equally impressed with the space.  MeLisa’s salon is light, airy and classic, but with a modern twist.  The best part?  She and her husband designed and built the entire space themselves!  MeLisa says her inspiration was to create a social experience and relaxed environment.  The U-shaped marble counter provides guests a chance to chit chat with friends beneath two stunning crystal chandeliers.

To achieve a soothing and fresh color palette, MeLisa painted the walls with three shades of the same silver/grey.  The metallic shade on the accent wall is the most striking and subtly changes color depending on the light.  MeLisa and her husband are no strangers to design.  They own a remodeling company called Distinctive Construction, so it only seemed natural to take on the project themselves.  Between her sketches and his craftsmanship, they’ve achieved a space as beautiful as the hair-styles that come out of it!

Here are a few ideas you may want to borrow:

-Molding can work miracles

-Mirror makes any space look large and luxurious

-Don’t be afraid to show off towels and products

-Drawer organization keeps tools neat and tidy

-Tone on tone paint creates a soothing space
